Primary Specialties: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine Dr. Yaoming Gu joined National Spine & Pain Centers in 2012 after serving for seven years as an Assistant Professor at Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Virginia Commonwealth University. A seasoned clinician, Dr. Gu earned his medical degree from China Medical University. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Eastern Virginia Medical School after interning in Surgery at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Gu is skilled in a host of sophisticated interventional techniques, such as epidural steroid injections, vertebroplasty, discography, percutaneous disc decompression, facet joint injection, and radiofrequency ablations. He is also well-experienced with spinal cord stimulation. Preeminent in his field, Dr. Gu has lectured to peers on numerous pain management topics. His special interests are spinal disc degeneration, disc herniation, stenosis, sciatica, occupational and sport-related injury, cervicogenic headaches, and joint and ligament pain. He also participated as a principal investigator in an FDA-approved Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial of disc regeneration. Board-certified in Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Sports Medicine, Dr. Gu maintains active memberships with the International Spine Interventional Society, North American Spine Society, and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Gu was recently honored for the fourth consecutive year (2015-2018) as one of Richmond Magazine’s Top Doctors and honored for the fourth year (2013,2014,2017,2018) by Our Health Magazine with one of best bedside manner awards in northern Virginia.
