At the MedRVA Foundation, we believe that creativity has no limits—and no better example of that exists than in the artists from our Low Vision Center. This July, we are proud to partner with the Petersburg Area Art League (PAAL) for a groundbreaking art exhibition featuring internationally renowned blind painter John Bramblitt, alongside inspiring works from several talented MedRVA Low Vision artists.

From July 11 through the end of the month, visitors to PAAL will experience a vibrant and powerful showcase of expression and resilience. For our featured MedRVA artists, many of whom work directly with therapist Mary Bullock, this event is more than an exhibition—it’s a celebration of possibility.
“We want to make sure that artists who face disabilities in their life don’t have to stop being creative,” says Bullock. “They may need to change their technique or form, but you never stop yourself from using art as a personal outlet.”
The exhibit opens on Friday, July 11, with a public reception from 5 to 8 PM. The weekend continues with two can’t-miss events:
- 🎨 Saturday, July 12 at 11 AM – Hands-on workshop led by Bramblitt, where participants—both sighted and visually impaired—will learn to paint without using vision. Blindfolds will be provided to offer new perspectives on the creative process.
- 🎤 Saturday, July 12 at 6 PM – Artist talk with John Bramblitt, who will share his extraordinary story of losing his sight and gaining a global platform as the world’s first blind muralist.

Bramblitt’s work has been exhibited in over 120 countries and spotlighted by The New York Times, BBC, and Discovery Channel. His visit is a testament to the power of accessibility, creativity, and community.
We are honored to be part of this event, not only for the opportunity to share the talents of our Low Vision artists but also to help amplify the message that art is for everyone.
Come be inspired. Witness the colors, textures, and courage that define this unforgettable exhibition.
